AL, AK, HI, IA, ID, IL, LA, MS, NH, NV, OH, PA, TX, WA, WI Do You Live in One of These States? The fate of the states grant portion of the Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities program may be in the hands of your United States Senator. Fifteen senators from these states sit on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, HHS, and Education. By July 20 these senators will likely determine the Senate's funding level for SDFSC for Fiscal Year 2007. It is urgent that everyone in every state contact their senators IMMEDIATELY. People who live in the 15 states above have a special obligation. Even if you have used CADCA’s CapWiz system before, YOU SHOULD USE IT AGAIN! You don’t have to be a member of CADCA. If you are a public employee, you can still use CapWiz if you do so on your home computer and personal email account. Senators on the subcommittee are: Arlen Specter (Chairman) (PA), Thad Cochran (MS), Judd Gregg (NH), Larry Craig (ID), Kay Bailey Hutchison (TX), Ted Stevens (AK), Mike DeWine (OH), Richard Shelby (AL), Tom Harkin (Ranking Member) (IA), Daniel Inouye (HI), Harry Reid (NV), Herb Kohl (WI), Patty Murray (WA), Mary Landrieu (LA), and Richard Durbin (IL). If you have a close relationship with one of these senators, you should notify Kelly Lieupo at CADCA. North Carolina Regional Coalition Kicks-Off with Pride Surveys Representatives from seven counties in the western portion of North Carolina recently met to kick off a regional anti-drug coalition. And this is a story about sharing the wealth. When the Coalition for a Safe and Drug-Free Clay County, based in Hayesville, NC, learned it would receive additional federal funding, its leaders offered to split the funds with six other counties. So, on June 23, representatives from Cherokee, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Macon, and Swain counties, met in Hayesville for the first meeting of the region-wide coalition. Each county will receive $36,000, plus other benefits, thanks to the generosity of the Clay County group. One high school, middle school and elementary school in each county will be offered the Pride Surveys for Grades 6-12, Grades 4-6, Parents and Faculty/Staff. On hand for the kick-off were U.S. Rep. Charles Taylor, who helped secure the funding, State Sen. John Snow, and State Rep. Roger West. Out of state guests included CADCA CEO Arthur Dean, Rendel Stalvey of the Mendez Foundation and Doug Hall of Pride Surveys. Coalition for a Safe and Drug-Free Clay County
