Advisory Committee Considers Fate of Drug Free Schools The
final public hearing of the Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities
Advisory Committee was held this week in Washington. The committee plans
a telephone conference call on Sept. 5 with a final report to US Secretary
of Education Margaret Spellings by Sept. 8. Some supporters hope that the advisory committee will recommend at least one more year of funding through Sept. 30, 2008 (FY08). More

Out of Sync on Alcohol and Drugs “80 percent of parents believe that neither alcohol nor marijuana is usually available at parties their teens attend. BUT 50 percent of teen partygoers attend parties where alcohol, drugs or both are available,” according to a new study by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University. Pride Surveys has historically found that the most common place for alcohol and drug use by teens is a friend’s house, followed by their own home.
